The members are: Marcus Penrose Double bass. Marcus is a graduate of the Guildhall University Jazz Course and is one of the leading lights of the new generation of contemporary jazz musicians currently playing on the London scene. Andy Brodie Guitar. Andy is heavily influenced by the music of Django Reinhardt and the 1930s Eastern European sound. This gives his playing an unpredictable and original flavour. John Davison Soprano and tenor saxophone. A melodic and lyrical player; a critic once said his playing was like 'listening to honey being poured over gravel.' 'Ghost Looking' was their debut album, recorded in France in the summer of 2002 and released in the November of that year. Listening to it you can hear the different influences; the feel of the tracks changes from Swing to Bop but all within an identifiable group 'sound'. Even though it was recorded in a studio the album has an amazing crisp live feel to it - it's easy to imagine yourself in an intimate little jazz club, sitting at a table at the front and nodding along with the songs. The John Davison Trio are still playing and songs from 'Ghost Looking' still feature in their repertoire. If you're a jazz fan and you haven't heard of either the album or the group - do yourself a favour and check them out. The album is available, either as a CD or in downloadable form, from the shop. (You can find the shop in the menu bar at the top of the page.) |
