Welcome to Coverdrive Records!

We are a small record label and music publishing company specialising in modern Celtic, classical, folk and acoustic music. In addition we write production music for film, TV and adverts. We also make music videos through our associate companies. Please take a moment to look around; check out the artists' pages, look at our friends - and don't forget to visit the shop!  All links are in the menu bar which is at the top of this and every page.

August 2008

13th   The Renata CDs Eternal Light and Entelechy are now available again and can be purchased from the shop. Due to the 'long tail' of the Internet there's been a bit of a resurgence of interest in these recordings and they're being played on classical music stations worldwide.

July 2008

15th   Welcome back! Afer a brief hiatus due to illness among the web people and *somebody* renewing the wrong domain name both this site and the Celtic Legend site are up and running again. Sorry for any inconvienence.

May 2008

10th   The Celtic Legend album 'Lyonesse' is now available in shops in Japan! The first foreign licencing deal secured by Sonic Services (see 'News', 1st January 2008) has come to fruition and we've teamed up with a Japanese label called Village Again. There are some other deals in the pipeline too, we'll keep you posted.

April 2008

30th   The Celic Legend band site, celticlegend.com, is currently down whilst we switch ISPs. Obviously we'll get it back as soon as possible.

26th   We were saddened to hear of the recent sudden death of Peter Woodings at the the too-young age of 51. Peter was a superbly talented guitarist and composer and was a long-time collaborator with Chris Payne right back to school days. Recently he'd been an Associate Director of the Merton Music Foundation where he conducted guitar ensembles and also taught classical guitar. Our thoughts go out to all his family and friends.

February 2008

12th   Valentine's Day is coming and nothing says "I Love You" like buying your beloved a CD - except perhaps buying them a PYTHIA t-shirt or a nice book. Luckily for you we have all these items for sale, so go on - splash out in our Shop and make your Valenine's Day go with a bang.

January 2008

23rd   We've finally got around to doing a page for ex-Eden keyboard player Tim Vince and his book (see News, July 2007). It's called Tony's last Tape and other stories and it's a tale of 'old hippies, dead jazzmen and Rod Stewart'. You'll find a link in the artists drop-down, or alternatively click here. The page contains an interview we did with him where he rabbited on about music and writing and revealed the secret of cold fusion (but the tape ran out so we missed that bit).

16th   That Emily Ovenden's been busy again. Not content with being in the Mediaeval Baebes and being the lead vocalist for Celtic Legend she's also formed a Classical/Gothic rock band called PYTHIA. Although they're not one of our acts we can't resist a pretty woman when she flutters her eyelashes at us, and so we've agreed to sell her merchandising for her. You can find a PYTHIA page on the artists drop-down menu at the top of this page.  Buy a t-shirt and then follow the link to visit the PYTHIA Myspace site.

1st   Happy New Year!  We're really excited as we feel that 2008 could be a really big year for Well Played Music in general and for Celtic Legend in particular.  One of the reasons for this optimism is because we have just secured the services of Edouard Lelievre-Brethiez (former CEO of Scorpio Music) and his company 'The Sonic Services'.  Edourard's job will be to get licencing deals for our products in various territories around the world. This is important for our development because whilst Proper Music distribute our CDs in the UK currently the only way non-UK residents can buy our music (other than via iTunes) is by buying CDs from our Shop page or from CDBaby.  Hopefully with Edourad's help the record shops from Arkansas to Zurich will soon be full of our CDs!

December 2007

24th   Happy Christmas everybody!  The offish is now *hic* offishially closed and ... you're my best mate you are ... *hic*

21st   Sadly we've been told that Classic FM TV is no longer broadcasting on cable or satellite. They are now an 'Internet only' broadcaster, but we're pleased to say they're still as supportive as ever. We wish them all the best in their new niche.

November 2007

30th   We're pleased to hear that the 'Sweet Rosemary' video is being broadcast on Cmusic. This is a new international classical music TV station which broadcasts throughout Europe and Asia.

October 2007

21st   The new Celtic Legend video of 'Sweet Rosemary' has now been completed and it's every bit as good as we expected it to be. There's always the temptation to say 'this is the best one yet' every time a new one comes out but yeah, this is the best one yet.

11th   We've had a few requests for the lyrics for 'Tide' (the Eden album). No lyric book was included with the CD, so we've put them up on a separate page. You can find a link on the Eden page, or alternatively click here

September 2007

30th   A full-on day's filming (which saw Emily starting off in Make-Up at 04:30am) has produced another superb piece of cinematography. Credit as always to Jai Michael and his team from absoluteTV and ladies, we've unearthed the next Brad Pitt! (His name's Harry).

19th   Preparations are well underway for the filming of the next Celtic Legend video. It's going to be 'Sweet Rosemary', one of the tracks from the 'Lyonesse' album. We're looking forward to seeing another masterpiece!

8th   The new resources section has been added. You can find it in the top menu bar or by clicking HERE. Currently it's specialising in musical instrument tuition.

August 2007

12th   Coming soon ... Author, voiceover artist, wit and raconteur Walter Harris is bringing out a CD of his poems (set to music by Pepper). Details to follow.

6th   Watch out for the Celtic Legend videos which are going to be featured on Classic FM TV again. In addition there are going to be some interviews with the band which will be broadcast as part of Classic FM TV's 'Close Up' series.

July 2007

20th   We're helping Katharine Blake distribute her new album 'Midnight Flower'. Katharine is one of the founder members of the Mediaeval Baebes and was also in Miranda Sex Garden. It's sort of 'Gothic Folk' and you can find out more about it by visiting her MySpace site here

1st   Former Eden keyboard player Tim Vince has got a book out! It's a novella and a collection of short stories called "Tony's Last Tape." In exchange for allowing us to plaster our name all over the inside cover we've agreed to set a page up for him and help him with sales. In the meantime he tells us you can order it 'from all good bookshops' and on-line from Amazon.

1st   Welcome to our new News section. We intend to use this to keep you all informed of events on Planet Coverdrive. Hopefully there will be lots to report and we won't be reduced to filling the space with stories such as 'At last! The new paper clips arrived today!'
